Defensive Driving in New York - Paul S., Cab Driver, New York City
New York Defensive Driving? Well, I drive in the City, so defensive driving is my life. Please. If you are in a car in New York, it’s always New York Defensive Driving. If you are on a sidewalk in New York, it’s New York Defensive Driving.
B&T’s. That’s what we call people who come from Jersey or wherever and take bridges and tunnels into New York. I think they don’t know how to drive over there, and if I see an out of state license plate, I stay far away – that’s New York Defensive Driving. Dodging and weaving around all those people who wear white after Labor Day as they fail to grasp the concept of a crosswalk, that’s New York Defensive Driving.
42nd street. I once had my cab egged while driving someone off there. Now, whenever I get a call for 42nd Street pick-up or drop-off, I cover my car in a protective plastic sheet – that’s New York Defensive Driving. I could teach a New York Defensive Driving course, with all I’ve been through.
My brother, he once got hit by one of those military looking trucks, the Hum-bert or whatever. He was driving a convertible in from Long Island, and if had any sense of New York Defensive Driving, he’d still have that convertible today. But that Hum-whatever knocked off his whole front end. Come to think of it, I should give him a New York Defensive Driving Course.
Pigeons. You think I’m kidding? Getting away from those pigeons – that’s New York Defensive Driving. I don’t know if there is a New York Defensive Driving course on how to stay away from the pigeons, but there should be. And I’d take that New York Defensive driving course in a minute. You ever seen a yellow taxi turn white in under 2 minutes? I have, and it’s not pretty. New York Defensive Driving, I tell ya, I want to open a whole New York Defensive Driving school that just teaches bird avoidance.
I guess if I think about it, New York Defensive Driving is what I do for a living. I drive around New York City, avoiding people, avoiding other cars, talking to people. Sometimes they ask me how I can avoid getting into an accident, and I give them some pointers, like my own New York Defensive Driving course. But it’s not like you are born with all the New York Defensive Driving skills. Some you have to learn along the way. But I’ve learned so much, I could teach a New York Defensive Driving course. My brother is a geek, maybe he can help me set up a New York Defensive Driving course online or something.
My wife never misses an opportunity to pick up a new ding on the sedan at home. I wish she knew some New York Defensive Driving. She’d never make it as a cabbie. She could use a New York Defensive Driving course. She could use a New York Defensive Driving school, coming to think of it. She could take a bunch of New York Defensive driving classes if they had one of those. But she hardly likes to leave the house – maybe it would be better if they had a New York Defensive Driving course online.
Well, that’s what New York Defensive Driving means to me. That’s just one cabby’s opinion.
We here at NY-Defensive-Driving.com appreciate Paul sharing his point of view, and we sure are glad there are cab drivers out there like Paul. But we’re not sure he gets what we mean by New York Defensive Driving. In fact, you can take a New York Defensive Driving course online.
